Benefits of a DNA Database
WHY SHOULD COUNTRIES HAVE OFFENDER DNA DATABASES?
In cases where a suspect has not yet been identified, biological evidence from the crime scene can be analyzed and compared to offender profiles in DNA databases to help identify the perpetrator. In essence, a forensic DNA database is a powerful investigative tool that can generate investigative leads when there are none. That’s not all. Such databases can even be used to identify missing persons by matching them with their families. Additionally, studies have shown that databases not only help solve cases but also help prevent crime, exonerate the innocent, and save public money.
